The Association of Certified Federal Surveyors is a scientific and educational association of surveyors that was founded in 2009 to improve the quality of surveys and knowledge of survey clients by setting high standards for surveying education, and practice.
Membership
Members of the Association of Certified Federal Surveyors are referred to as "Fellows." The letters FCFedS (Fellow, Certified Federal Surveyors) after a surveyor's name mean that the surveyor's education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by the Association.
There is also another category of membership known as "Associate." This category was established to provide an opportunity for surveyors who are beginning practice and who meet specific requirements to assume an active role supporting the Association.
In addition, there are categories of membership for surveying students.
The Association currently has approximately ### members. There are presently more than ### Associates.
Major Activities of the Association
Sponsors a variety of continuing education programs, such as _____, to help surveyors keep abreast of the latest information on surveying subjects.
Conducts various programs through its Commission on Cadastre to improve the understanding and preservation of the cadastral fabric in the United States and promotes a program that encourages states to develop programs for optimal care and recognition of property rights and to seek, general approval of these programs.
Through its Committee on Precedence, works to improve the quality of expert support of legal processes to enable the courts to consistently and accurately apply the long standing laws, rules, purposes and traditions of real property. Conducts training courses for survey personnel; sponsors courses for the management and prevention of misunderstandings and mistakes for land related specialists as well as for associated administrators and bureaucrats who do not treat cadastral issues on a regular basis.
Through its Office of Public Information, provides general information to the public about surveyors and surveying services. A public education Web site, which was developed by the Association’s Division of Education, helps individuals contemplating survey procedures make informed decisions and provides a variety of resources on frequently performed survey services and related issues.
The Association has developed the Surveyor Education and Self-Assessment Program (SESAP) to provide practicing surveyors with an excellent resource for lifelong learning. SESAP is based on the opinions of expert surveyors, legal precedents and the published literature. It may be used to stay current, earn PDH credits, or prepare for certification or recertification.
Publications
ACFedS Tru-Line a e-mail newsletter highlighting current news affecting surveyors, their practices, and their clients.
The Association produces and publishes other publications on a variety of topics that affect urvey practice, including manuals that focus on ways of improving practice, guidelines and information on the business of surveying. Administration of the Association
The Association is governed by a ##-member Board of Governors which includes the ACFedS President, Treasurer and Secretary.
On the local level, Fellows of the Association are organized into ## Chapters in the United States.
Some Comments on the ACFedS Seal
The seal features the CFedS emblem surrounded by a banner crossing the top with the name “Association of Certified Federal Surveyors”. The whole is supported by a pair of laurel branches with the motto “Quaecumque Vera” (Latin for: "Whatsoever things are true")
