Big Weekend Is HereWell, the big weekend is here. I, for one, can't wait to see everyone and catch up on how we've changed the world. It's too bad more of our class haven't yet contributed here but I am sure there will be no lack of sharing come Friday night. This blog won't go away so perhaps some stories of the get-together will appear afterward. Dad's in TownI have trouble at times realizing that it's been over twice as long since we graduated as we were old at the time. My mind's image of myself is often as 16-24 years old, not the guy who looks out at me when I look in the mirror. (It's one reason not to look at mirrors.) Mom and Dad are coming to visit this weekend. He is here to celebrate with his high school classmates their 65th anniversary of graduation from Catholic High of Baton Rouge. (continued 6 June 2009) The brothers really know how to found and run a school. The event was larger than I anticipated and by all accounts a great success. The large gymnasium was filled with tables, all seating couples, seemingly everyone old & familiar friends. I was the proverbial fly-on-the-wall over-hearing shared memories of youthful exploits. The event featured the class celebrating its 50th year while concelebrating with those of 55, 60, 65, 70 & 75 years. I let Dad and Mom out at the entrance in the drizzle and parked the car. As I rejoined them he introduced me to a tall gentleman as his Confirmation sponsor, who was attending his 75th annual class reunion. I learned he was 92 and heard his stories of his trip last week to visit his OLDER brothers! The meal was as good as the stories and handshakes. The alumni were served by Key club members and a great time was had by all. For a few photos follow this LINK. |
Hanging OutDon't know about the rest of you, but some of my favorite high school memories are of "hanging out" at Judice Inn and enjoying their burgers. I've lived in Houston since 1981, but always try to drop by Judice Inn whenever I'm in Lafayette for the "Judice Inn" experience.
