{"id":71,"date":"2011-02-26T07:36:35","date_gmt":"2011-02-26T13:36:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gpsman.com\/blog\/?p=71"},"modified":"2011-03-12T22:13:16","modified_gmt":"2011-03-13T04:13:16","slug":"nsps-surveying-usa-join-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gpsman.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/26\/nsps-surveying-usa-join-in\/","title":{"rendered":"NSPS Surveying USA &#8230; Join In!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saturday, March 19, 2011 surveyors across the United States will be hosting NSPS (National Society of Professional Surveyors) Surveying USA events in local communities to kick off the start of National Surveyor\u2019s Week which starts on Sunday, March 20, 2011.\u00a0 Advanced Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment will be on display and collecting data at sites throughout the country.<\/p>\n<p>The goal of NSPS Surveying USA is to give the public an opportunity to observe local surveyors in action and to learn more about the world\u2019s oldest profession. \u00a0Surveyors at each location will be available to answer questions about the event and to discuss the role of surveyors in the community. \u00a0Anyone with a GPS unit (hand-held or otherwise) is also welcome to join in the fun.<\/p>\n<p>Surveyors with advanced GPS receivers will occupy points to gather over 4 hours of data in an effort to support the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS) by submitting the data collected through the NSPS to the National Geodetic Survey in what may turn out to be a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">world record<\/span> simultaneous GPS observation &amp; adjustment.<\/p>\n<p>Geochachers and others interested may participate with recreational and mapping style hand-held receivers by observing as many bench marks in their area as possible and submit hand-held values via DSWORLD (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ngs.noaa.gov\/PC_PROD\/PARTNERS\/index.shtml\">http:\/\/www.ngs.noaa.gov\/PC_PROD\/PARTNERS\/index.shtml<\/a>) to NGS to update stations in the NSRS.
