Hirsch<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Editors  Hirsch and Logsdon have compiled a necessary read by any serious  commentator on New Orleans or Louisiana. It will be considerably easier  to assimilate by one who is a native student than one whose paradigm is  what the authors refer to as from Anglo-American traditions.<\/div>\n<div id=\"brtext_34313552\">\n<p>The  several contributors do a remarkable job of conveying the complexities  of the social development of New Orleans, usually ignored by  commentators. While the styles of the contributors varies expectedly and  can be a little academic at times, only one Joseph Tregle&#8217;s  contribution was hard to wade through. He successfully rebuts overly  simplified and never quite attributed claims with far too many words and  academic sounding argument.<\/p>\n<p>With that one exception the book is  an excellent read and I&#8217;d recommend it to anyone seriously curious about  the opportunities offered and contributions by this unique place and  its people.
