In “Contracts – The Essential Business Desk Reference”, Nolo Press has published a high quality dictionary/encyclopædia of legal contract terms. A book like this will not make one a lawyer

A book that is compact for the amount of good information it contains. I confess I need to work before I can reveal the sculptured abs I am skillfully hiding at present. I enjoyed it and try to put some of the advice into practice.

The book contains all that one expects as a collection of bits of wisdom and stories of achievement and motivation. In part because of its origin the reader who looks beneath the veneer of platitudes finds himself alternatively inspired to do what he hasn’t yet accomplished and embarrassment for failures due to his lack of effort or preparation. It is a great read full of inspiration.

A cautionary tale about the dangers of worldly power and possessions and the war between good and evil. Kivisalo tells the autobiographical story in the tone and simplicity of a Sunday school lesson. He covers practically every no-no a conservative, fundamentalist Christian congregation fears. Whether one will enjoy this book, whether one will gain from reading it or whether one should move down the book list depends on who he is and where he is in his life.

David Sandler’s book Fundamental Weight Training is well composed with lots of good information and clearly written. As a book of fundamentals, I would have preferred it to be aimed more at one using free weights privately at home.

Denis Wood takes us into a place most are never aware exists, as if to give us the world through the eyes of a map. Oh yes, we read about projections and scales and the minutia that seasons the conversation of professional cartographers. But more, we also are brought (dragged if reluctant) to the realization that every map has an opinion, a point of view. He doesn’t stop there. He continues until his point is made that everyman, in a map making world, is or ought to be, a map maker.

Horse sense for people : using the gentle wisdom of the join-up technique to enrich our relationships at home and at work… by Monty Roberts This time was a re-read for me. Anyone who lays claim to being or wanting to manage people should study Monty Roberts’ “Join Up” methods. ( )

She starts with a flashback through a childhood that sets the stage for maladjustment, repression and anger. With another relationship seemingly failing she happens on Avalon. and Jean. Together healing is discovered and inspiring to the reader on several levels.

Sam Wyly’s book is a joy to read. Each chapter is a short story unto itself. At first I attributed my interest to the familiar places since he is a native Louisianian, but I found each of his many stories relevant and familiar. It it was a novel one could call it “a real page turner.”
