GOES Satellite Video of 2011 Hurricane Season Released
A video released by NASA features the whole hurricane season of 2011. It is a mesmerizing video in which one observes several repeating patterns in the North Atlantic and in the Pacific west of Mexico and, of course, the train from north Africa to the Gulf of Mexico. All the named storms are identified so the viewer may easily identify and follow them.
The GOES series of satellites provide continuous satellite information for the U.S. and are critical during hurricane season. This was the busiest hurricane season since 1995. The animation shows the season’s 19 tropical storms (seven made it to hurricane status, and three of those major hurricane status).
