LightSquared has a full-page color ad in today’s Washington Post and Politico. The ad does not address GPS interference concerns.
The Evening Standard, Wall Street Journal, Reuters and others all reported that Inmarsat announced a 23% earnings bump, which it attributes in part to the implementation of Phase 2 of its cooperation agreement with LightSquared. A Company press release quotes Andrew Sukawaty, Inmarsat’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer:
- “During the quarter we saw strong overall revenue growth resulting from our Cooperation Agreement with LightSquared including the first revenues from Phase 2 of the agreement. The revenue performance of our core MSS business was in line with management expectations. New product sales continue to be very strong, but some usage trends and other factors continue to constrain our MSS growth. We continue to expect growth in our core MSS revenue for 2011 to be within our 2% to 4% range.”
Southeast Farm Press reported that the American Soybean Association (ASA) has met with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on issues relating to possible GPS interference under the LightSquared network. The story notes the Nelson/Roberts letter.
Gerson Lehrman Group suggests that aviation is most at risk under LightSquared’s planned network in an analysis of an article from last week headlined, “The GPS crisis: how serious is it?”
